Fruit smoothies are a great meal for parents on the go and if done correctly, they are easy to make, clean up quickly and pack a lasting boost of energy without all the unnecessary calories.  The Mango Cherry Smoothie can be used as a meal replacement or it can substitute as a dessert with your kids. This smoothie is both delicious and filling. The cherries provides the sweet flavor while the mangos add to the creamy texture desired in a smoothie.

We subscribe to frozen fruit for our smoothies. This keeps you from having to add ice, which will water down a good smoothie. The frozen fruit gives you the chance to make it on demand, rather than having to go buy fresh fruit.  This is the centerpiece of our Smoothies for Men series of recipes.

Mango Cherry Smoothie Health Benefits

Sweet cherries are a great fruit as they have the sweet richness that is often found in desserts. A cherry smoothie can satisfy your sweet tooth while also coming with some health benefits. As detailed in this article from Healthline.com “Cherries are a good source of vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and other nutrients that your body needs to function optimally.” The cherries plus the mangos in this smoothie give you 70% of your daily Vitamin C needs. This is also great source of Potassium (20% of recommended daily amount), which helps promote healthy nerve, muscle and heart functions.

Here is the recipe and process for the Mango Cherry Smoothie.

Ingredients

Mango Cherry Smoothie (425 Calories)

  • 1.5 Cups of Frozen Pitted Dark Sweet Cherries (135 Cal.)
  • .75 Cup of Vanilla Honey Greek Yogurt (200 Cal.)
  • .75 Cup of Frozen Mango Chunks (60 Cal.)

*You can sub other milk or milk substitutes for Almond Milk. Caution from adding a heavier liquid like Oat Milk or Whole Milk as this smoothie already has Yogurt as a solid base.

Instructions

We recommend a bullet type blender or heavy-duty blender to get this smoothie to the right consistency.  MDS is an Amazon Affiliate and we have had success with ordering blenders and parts from them, some with same-day delivery!

  1. Add all the ingredients to the blender or bullet cup.  Add the frozen fruit in first, in order to avoid splash back from dropping in chunks of frozen fruit into liquid.
  1. If you have different blender blade options use the 4-pronged serrated blade.  If that is not an option, use the most “aggressive” of your blade options.  You will be breaking up frozen fruit so you will want this blended well and not chunky.
  1. Blender until you get the consistency of a milk shake.  If the smoothie is not blending well and needs more liquid to loosen it up, add more Almond Milk or your preferred substitute. You should not need to add much more liquid, so try stirring the smoothie if things are not blending together as desired.
  1. Once blended to your preferred consistency, remove from the blender, let settle and pour.
  1. Clean up should should be easy. The bullet cups and many blenders are dishwasher safe.  After a quick rinse these can go right into the dishwasher.
