The Tart Cherry Smoothie is one of my favorites in Modern Dad Survivals (MDS) Smoothies for Men series. It checks all the boxes in taste, health and simplicity. With only 3 ingredients, this smoothie delivers a mighty shot of energy for Dad’s dragging from the joy and challenges of parenting. If you read our 3 Foods that Gives You Energy – For Parents post you know that Fruit Smoothies are a parent’s friend for delivering lasting energy in a healthy (and tasty) option.
Most of our Smoothie recipes create smoothies that are 16-24 ounces. This recipe is much smaller, making a 10-ounce serving. If more is desired double the ingredients, however, the tartness of this smoothie is best served in small doses.
Here is the recipe and process for the Tart Cherry Smoothie.
TART CHERRY SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS
Tart Cherry Smoothie (300 Calories)
- 1 Cups of Frozen Pitted Dark Sweet Cherries (90 Cal.)
- .5 Cup of Juice from an Orange (60 Cal.)
- .5 Cup of Honey Vanilla Greek Yogurt (150 Cal.)
INSTRUCTIONS
Like all smoothies in our Smoothies for Men series, you will need a bullet type blender or heavy-duty blender to get this smoothie to the right consistency.
- Squeeze a large Orange to get .5 Cup of Juice and remove any seeds that may have made it into the Juice.
- Put all the ingredients into your bullet blender cup or your blender. Put the Cherries in first to minimize the splash back of them falling into liquid. It should not be an issue with this recipe, but never fill above the “Fill To” line on the device or you may end up with a mess.
- If you have different blender blades use the 4-pronged serrated blade. If that is not an option, use the most “aggressive” of your blade options. You are blending frozen fruit with Peanut Butter so you will want this well blended and not separated.
- Run the blender until you get the consistency of a milk shake. If the smoothie is not blending stir the products to get them loosened up and re-blend. You should not need to add more liquid to this recipe.
- Once blended to a milkshake consistency, remove from the blender, pour in your preferred cup and serve.
- Clean-up is very easy. Many of the bullet cups are dishwasher safe. After a rinse it can go right into the dishwasher.
ENJOYING YOUR TART CHERRY SMOOTHIE
The Tart Cherry Smoothie is a low 300 calories, which makes for a healthy afternoon snack or a dessert replacement. The Cherries offer a nice blend of antioxidants while the juice from the orange will give you 15% of your daily Vitamin C intake. The Cherry taste in this is more forward than our Mango Cherry Smoothie recipe, so if you are looking for a strong Cherry flavor, this is your smoothie.
