At Modern Dad Survival we are big fans of fruit smoothies. If done right, smoothies give you energy and also offer a healthy meal replacement. Yogurt is often the base for most smoothies, but it does not have to be. The Delicious Mango Smoothie without Yogurt provides an option for those looking to make a smoothie without the yogurt base. By removing the yogurt, you are removing some calories, but also some protein as well, so consider a protein powder to make up for that if desired.

Mangos are the ideal fruit for a no-yogurt smoothie. They blend to a very creamy consistency and can serve as their own base to maintain a milkshake like quality similar to a yogurt or ice-cream smoothie. Our Yogurt Peach Smoothie can be done with a variety of fruits, however, it is more difficult to find a suitable replacement for the mangos in this yogurt-free Mango Smoothie.

Here is the recipe and process for the Delicious Mango Smoothie without Yogurt.

Ingredients

Delicious Mango Smoothie without Yogurt (300 Calories)

  • 1.5 Cups of Frozen Mango Chunks (120 Cal.)
  • 1 Cup of Oat Milk* (100 Cal.)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey (65 Cal.)
  • .5 Tablespoon of Cinnamon-Sugar Mix (11 Cal.)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Lime Juice (4 Cal.)

*You can substitute Oat Milk with Whole Milk or your preferred Milk Substitute, but do not go with too light of a substitute as this will lead to a watered-down result. Oat Milk is high in calories and carbohydrates compared to other milk substitutes, but also adds a flavor that benefits a yogurt free smoothie.

**Cinnamon-Sugar Mix is 4 parts Sugar to 1 part Cinnamon. It is great for Cinnamon Toast as well, so we keep a small jar around at all times. If you don’t want to mix you own, you can buy Cinnamon-Sugar mix at the grocery store from McCormick or other brands normally in the spice section. This is a very sweet tasting smoothie, so if you would like to temper the sweetness you can remove the Cinnamon-Sugar Mix and replace this with vanilla extract (1 Teaspoon).

Instructions

You will need a bullet type blender or heavy-duty blender to get this smoothie to the right consistency. MDS is an Amazon Affiliate and got our Magic Bullet from Amazon for less than $50.

  1. Put all the ingredients into your bullet blender cup or your blender.  Put the Mango Chunks in first to minimize the splash back of them falling into liquid. Never fill above the “Fill To” line on the device or you may end up with a mess.
  2. If you have different blender blades use the 4-pronged serrated blade.  If that is not an option, use the most “aggressive” of your blade options.  You will be breaking up frozen fruit so you will want this really blended and not chunky.
  3. Run the blender until you get the consistency of a milk shake.  If the smoothie is not blending well and needs more liquid to loosen it up, add more Oat Milk (or preferred substitute).  Put this back on the blender and try again to see if it comes together.  You should not need to add much more than 1 cup of Oat Milk, so try not to over add to keep the smoothie from getting watered-down.
  4. Once blended to milkshake consistency, remove from the blender, pour and serve.
  5. Clean up should solely consist of the bullet or blender that you used.  Many of the bullet cups are dishwasher safe.  After a rinse it can go right into the dishwasher.
